Objective:

Lakeshore Kiwanis strongly believes in providing children with the opportunity to experience new relationships, and to create special memories that they will hopefully treasure for a lifetime. Imagine a place where your child can relax and enjoy the whisper of northern pines and the cool, clear water of a northern lake. Give your child the chance to experience the wonderful environment of Camp Wakonda.

Facilities:

  • 34 acres of attractive woodland located on the shores of McCarroll's Lake approximately 25 miles east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
  • Safe, well supervised sand beach, for swimming, and other water activities; flutter boards, noodles, canoeing and boating...life jackets are supplied!
  • Main lodge features a 30 by 60 foot dining area. Clean, cozy cabins sleep 6-12 campers comfortably in their own bunks. We will try to accommodate any requests for shared cabins whenever possible.
  • Nature and hiking trails, a baseball diamond, horseshoe pits, a large open recreational field, abasketball court, and a soccer field are all available for use, complemented by fishing in McCarroll’s Lake if desired.
  • Other activities offered will include canoeing, bocci, badminton, volleyball, croquet, tether ball and ping pong. Sing along and roasting marshmallows at the camp fire in the evenings are a must!
  • Arts and crafts and group/team games are always a favorite among the campers. All activities are supervised by trained, qualified staff on a schedule flexible enough to allow many  choices for all campers.

Staff:

Senior staff will include a Camp Administrator, Camp Director and Assistant Director who are responsible for the overall operation of the camp programs and facilities. One senior staff member, trained in first aid and a qualified lifeguard will be on site at all times. A cook will prepare and ensure that all meals are nutritious and well balanced. Camp counsellors will be the chief participants in the children's activities. Each counsellor will possess first aid and/or CPR training. Volunteers will include Counsellors in Training (CIT's) whose primary function will be to assist counsellors in any way possible. There is always at least one staff member per 5-6 campers.
