Camp Wakonda is an ideal location for group meetings, seminars, summer or winter camps and activities of almost any kind, especially where cost is a factor. Fully adapted for the handicap, Camp Wakonda can accommodate up to 58 visitors in 7 guest cabins and an additional 28 in “Variety Village” a group sleeping unit with 7 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Indoor group activities and meals are easily accommodated in the Bill Chalmers Memorial Lodge, Bill Chalmers being a charter member of Lakeshore Kiwanis, which features a complete commercial kitchen where your group can store and prepare its own food if preferred.   The Camp is particularly suitable for use by handicapped youth and seniors. Nearby nature trails are adapted to allow use by wheelchairs and for leisurely strolls in a beautiful natural setting.

Any group of up to 250 people may rent this facility at very reasonable cost for any duration they wish, summer or winter. The main lodge is fully winterized and features a 30 by 60 foot room for dining and meetings, complete with large fireplace. Under the same roof is a spacious commercial kitchen, laundry facilities, storage areas as well as
washrooms equipped to handle paraplegics. In winter, the heated main lodge makes an excellent rendezvous spot for cross country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling activities.

In summer, Camp Wakonda is an ideal site for resident camping, picnics and reunions. Facilities include nature and hiking trails, a baseball diamond, horseshoe pit, a large, open recreational field, a safe beach for swimming, a dock for boating and canoeing, basketball court, soccer field and an enclosed craft room. All this is complemented by fishing in McCarroll’s Lake and a wooded area for tent camping nearby.
