President's Message

Kiwanis is a global organization changing the world one child, one community at a time.

You can make a difference by becoming a member of our group. Our Kiwanis club meets weekly at the Marconi Club on Albert Street, West. Time is 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday. During these meetings we enjoy fellowship and discuss new initiatives of the club.

The Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore, is the owner and operator of Camp Wakonda, which is a brand new facility located on beautiful McCarrel Lake. The club purchased the children’s camp in 1975 from the United Church of Canada, to be used as a community facility. Camp Wakonda is located just North of Echo Bay, and throughout the years has been serving the Children of the World! We organize and run a six week summer camp for children 7 to 12 years old during July and August of each year. The camp is open seasonal and if you would like more information about renting the camp facilities please give us a call at 946-9715. Someone will definitely be in touch with you!

Serving the membership has been a privilege and I would encourage all members to consider this term of president. It is great volunteering for this highly motivated working team of individuals.

Some of our new service projects this year was the partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society in wrapping daffodils for their Annual sale in April. Also a new project our club embarked on was the Back to School Program held with Staples Business Depot. A project that enabled us to collect school supplies for needy children in our community. This project has certainly made a difference in the lives of others.

Other club projects include Trivia Night, Odyessy, What Christmas Means To Me, Pancake Breakfasts, Pasta and Meatball dinners, Senior Bingo’s, Highway clean up as well as our involvement with the Bon Soo Winter Carnival. We matched the donation of $12,500 dollars with the Sault Ste. Marie Kiwanis Club towards the kitchen in the Neo Natal Unit of our New Hospital.

Our number priority this year is to encourage new members to join the club and increase our membership. I encourage you to join us for lunch or at a club project anytime. Service work + team work =TOGETHER WE CAN! I leave you with a quote by Napoleon Hill “Whatever our mind can concieve and believe, it can Achieve!

Thanks for the opportunity of working together!

Terry-Lou Legros
2006-2007 President of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeshore
